Reflection
I find cross-cultural communication as a very important topic that needs an immense deal of emphasis from various stakeholders. In the wake of globalization, it is inevitable for organizations to rely on workforce from different cultural backgrounds. Therefore, it is important for these organizations to promote an environment that promotes cross-cultural communication at the workplace. I, therefore, I feel that employees in various levels need to be trained on the essence of improving cross-cultural communication at the workplace. In cross-cultural communication, I am interested in the idea of assisting those who might be facing communication barrier communicate effectively with their colleagues. For example, such people can be assisted through encouraging workmates to avoid closed questions, urging them to maintain etiquette, and to practice active listening. With such an effort, no one will feel excluded in the routine operations of the organization as well as feeling discriminated. One of the main challenges I associate with cross-cultural communication is learning languages. An individual will feel burdened when required to learn a new language while still executing his/her duties at the workplace. That is why I advocate for various other methods capable of improving cross-cultural communication at the workplace.
