Social media
Social media has become the controlling medium of today’s communication, providing information and entertainment to millions of users, while making the creators of the various platforms billionaires. Users depend on it for their news, social interactions, consumer activities, academic and literary sources. While its influence is very powerful, pervasive, and immediate, social media also present immeasurable opportunities for misdirection and misuse. The social dilemma we all face is do we recognize these personal and widespread invasions as negatives and do we attempt to regulate or control the continued power the platforms posses over out mental health, consumer preferences, political perspectives and value systems? If there are to be regulations or efforts to limit the social media’s powers, who should provide the controls? Government? The industry? An outside regulatory agency? Do our individual rights to free speech override the compelling need to oversee social media’s directions and impact?<
