Response to Classmates Discussions
There are 2 documents upload with 4 classmates on this document that I need a response for. Each response is 100 words. Please read the guide response to the requirement. You have to respond to each person on each on the document, not just one.
Week 2 – Discussion Forum 1
Respond to at least two of your fellow students or instructor posts with your proposed negotiation strategy in a substantive manner and provide information or concepts that they may not have considered. Each response should have a minimum of 100 words and be respectful of others’ opinions and beliefs that differ from your own. Support your position by using information from the week’s readings. You are encouraged to post your required replies earlier in the week to promote more meaningful and interactive discourse in this discussion forum. Continue to monitor the discussion forum until Day 7 and respond with robust dialogue to anyone who replies to your initial post.

Project resources contribute essentially to a project’s success or failure. Ensuring the appropriate resources are part of the project team is necessary but finding a balance with other organizational needs is challenging. As one of ILS’s main goals in this project is to retain employees, providing talented, goal seeking staff with opportunities to grow and improve is a significant aspect in achieving this goal. In addition to the employee obtaining the Project Management Institute’s Certified Associate Project Manager (CAPM) designation, the employee has experience in the warehouse area working on the loading dock. Without discounting the loading dock’s supervisor needs, management would identify a suitable employee looking to cross train and become a backup support staff on the loading dock. According to the Project Management Video (2018), there are three steps to the negotiation process.
1. Prepare a list of needs for both sides.
2. Probe why the situation is essential to each party, answer questions with questions.
3. Propose a solution allowing the other side to go first, take time to evaluate without accepting the offer too quickly.
Our text refers to a case study of on-boarding resources at Astro-Origin where senior management teams meet weekly to review staffing needs in the organization. “As a first fit, internal available resources are aligned (based on the skills required, time frame of the project, and whether the role aligns with a person’s career preferences) with open positions” (Kloppenborg et al., 2019, exhibit 5.2).
Additional options for filling the loading dock gap is to hire for the position or utilize a temporary resource from an agency to cover the project duration. The temporary employee route can be more expensive but also allows an organization to vet one’s performance before investing in on-boarding expenses.

The Logistics Service Improvement Project is a key project for the future of International Logistics Services’ success in New Zealand and its strategic objective of securing Walmart as a local client.
The negotiation strategy for obtaining the loading dock supervisor’s cooperation with the project and specifically assigning the loading dock employee to the project team will use The Power of Nice steps outlined in the Project Management Video (2018).
2. Prepare
The loading dock supervisor has indicated that resources on the loading dock are tight, so I will highlight how not allowing the employee to participate in the project will not help this issue and could make it worse. It is important to note that employee turnover was 25% before the acquisition by ILS (Project Management Case Study, n.d.). By refusing to allow an employee who recently earned a certification to exercise the use of these newly certified skills on a project that has been deemed valuable by company leadership, the supervisor is stifling the employee’s growth. If the employee does not have an opportunity to participate in the project, they will likely leave ILS altogether and seek employment with another company that will value the employee’s certification. This will further constrain the loading dock resources for a longer amount of time as they will need to find another person to hire and train.
Additionally, by allowing a loading dock employee to participate in this project that is aimed to improve several aspects of company operations, issues with loading dock resources may have a better opportunity to be highlighted and addressed.
To appropriately address the needs of the loading dock and retain our existing talent, I need the project participation of a loading dock employee.
2. Probe
By asking the supervisor why the employee is not permitted to work on the project, the answer is likely already known – resource constraints. Follow-up questions to this will include whether the supervisor thinks the employee will continue to stay with ILS without being given opportunities to grow professionally? Would the supervisor stay if they were denied the opportunity to use their new certification? If the employee leaves, would that create more resource problems in the mid to long-term than just having the employee temporarily assigned to a project?
2. Propose
The final step is allowing the loading dock supervisor to propose a solution. The initial offer should not be accepted too quickly. The ultimate goal is to obtain the employee on a full-time basis for the entire length of the project.
By following these steps, the hope is that the loading dock supervisor will see there is more long-term benefit to the loading dock resources by allowing the employee to work on the project.
