Instructions for the Research Paper for Microbiology:
This course requires each student to individually compose a paper concerning a topic in microbiology. The paper should be approximately 1000 words which would translate to about 4 pages in the double-spaced MLA format. Works can be sited at the end of the paper. At least four scientific, peer reviewed articles are needed as references. You may use the search links found under the Critical Reading folder to find your resources.
Topics must pertain to microbiology, immunology, or parasitology. Just choose a single organism (i.e. Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Helicobacter pylori, Streptococcus pyogenese, etc.)
The student may choose their topic with or without clearance from the instructor. The more narrow the topic, the easier it will be to compose. For example: HIV is a very broad topic. It might be better to write about the most recent transmission rates in Georgia, or specific HIV related opportunistic infections or how it infects and damages the immune system or latest vaccine research or etc.
There will be an Assignment Box provided within the course on D2L. All papers will be submitted to a plagiarism software program. Collect data, then write the paper in your own words.
