Using the article as an example for the application of the Haddon Matrix
http://enhs.umn.edu/current/6120/brain/prevention.html
Give an example of type of injury and injury prevention that you can apply the Haddon Matrix.
Phases (npaihb.org)
Workplace violence
Pre-event(pre-assault): Train workers to identify at risk violent client/customers. Train managers in conflict resolution / proper dismissal strategies
Event (Assault): Train workers methods of signaling for help during robberies / assaults. Train employees to use self-protection, when confronted with violent client.
Post-Event (Post-Assault): Train workers in first aid. Provide workers with crisis interventions, counseling after assault events.
According to (Tom Christoffel, 2006) “Haddon Matrix” was created by William Haddon Jr to assess injury prevention / intervention relation to the stage of injury event. Preinjury-event phase, injury-event phase, or postinjury-event phase. When the injury event is broken down according to time phases and factors contributed to the event will make it less complicated to determine that there are factors for intervention for the types of injuries. This allows interventions that will be tailored made to each phase.

An injury that I’m interested in learning more about is motor vehicle traffic accidents. Motor Vehicle accidents make up a great amount of major injuries that may involve in death. According to the World Health Organization, about 1/35 million people’s lives are cut short because of a traffic incident. “ • 93% of the world’s fatalities on the roads occur in low- and middle-income countries, even though these countries have approximately 60% of the world’s vehicles.” (WHO, 2020). There are plenty of risk factors regarding traffic accidents, speeding is a huge factor. Personally, I often see individuals speed all the time, I’m not sure people realize how dangerous vehicles are. Most think that they can handle cars well or that they’ll be alright until it’s too late. Another major risk factor is driving under the influence. There are plenty of rules against driving and driving but again, some tend to believe that they aren’t “that drunk” so they drive anyway. Lastly, this one is extremely common, distracted driving. Drivers who use their phones while driving are four times more likely to be involved in a car crash than drivers who aren’t using their mobile phones. There are a plethora of reasons why traffic accidents occur. I didn’t expect so many to not take driving a vehicle seriously.
