Overview:
Many models have been built to help shape strategy for businesses, which includes
both decision making and collaboration. Porter’s Five Forces model, created by Michael
Porter, is an example of a model that many businesses follow when strategizing. For
this assignment, you will be creating a Porter’s Five Forces model of eBay and
analyzing your findings.
Instructions:
• Research and create a Porter’s Five Forces model of eBay. This can be done in
Word, Excel or PowerPoint.
• In a paper, report and analyze your findings. Include answers to the following
questions:
o What does your Five Forces analysis reveal about the nature and strength
of the various competitive pressures eBay faces?
o Are the competitive pressures facing eBay and other online auction
companies conducive to earning good profits? Why or why not?
o What problems and issues do eBay’s top managers need to address?
Which problems and issues should be top priorities?
o What do you see as the key success factors for organizations in the online
auction industry?
• Explain how your research into the Five Forces model effected your views of
business strategy as it pertains to collaboration and decision making.
