Question 1
You work in a local NT based IT company which is named DarwinTech. As a network administrator you need
to chop the whole network into 4 subnets such that each subnet may have a maximum 16 usable hosts IP.
Given the network address:

Question 2
As a Network Administrator for DarwinTech, you have been tasked with designing an Active Directory
based network which uses Active Directory Integrated DNS. The company has 4 separate departments –
Development, Testing, Management and Finance. Each of these departments have its own logical
boundaries and an IT Admin from each department is given some responsibilities of managing day to day
IT issues specific to that department. Management and Finance have around 15 Workstations each with
15 users. The company also has 1 Printer and 2 File Servers which are shared only by Finance and
Management. Development and Testing divisions have its own Printer on top of 12 workstations for 12
users. However, any of the 2 printers can be shared between all the departments in case any 1 of the
printer is down.
Task 1: Describe in detail how the above scenario can best be implemented and provide logical
explanation in each of the steps for your chosen design. You can add diagrams (clear and precise) to
convey your ideas. (Marks: 10.0)
Task 2: If DarwinTech decides to open three more branch offices in New Zealand and Middle East and
Africa, with the Head Office located as is in Darwin, what can be done so that both the branch offices are
placed under Head Office, with separate security and policy requirements of their own? Draw a diagram
showing a possible network configuration with appropriate naming. (Marks: 5.0)
Question 3
You have to assign IPv4 addresses to 225 workstations automatically in a Windows Server 2016
environment. Several conditions, as outlines below, need to be considered. State with as much clarity as
possible on how you will achieve the following configuration in a Windows Server 2016 environment.
Task 1: Which technology will you be using for automatic IP Address assignment for a subnet of
192.168.5.10/24? Write in detail how you will setup the configuration. The addresses will be valid for 38
Hours, and generally have to be renewed after that period. Besides, certain range of addresses, such as
192.168.5.12-192.168.5.15 and 192.168.5.17-192.168.5.19 are reserved for different purposes and you
will have to leave these out while you set up the automatic address configuration. How will you achieve
that? Explain in detail with the required configuration. (Marks: 10.0)
Task 2: The network has a File Server that will always have the fixed address 192.168.5.150 handed out
to it during the automatic address assignment each time, how will you ensure that? Explain in detail with
the required configuration. You also want to make sure backup servers are available in case the primary
server responsible for the address assignment fails. Write down the steps required to set up such policy.
You also need to ensure that while both the servers (primary and backup) are operational, one may be
kept idle and can become active only when the other DNS server fails. (Marks: 10.0)
