Module 6 Discussion

1. You will need a “This is Public Health” (TIPH) sticker for the class activity in the next module. If you have not already obtained one, visit the TIPH website to investigate options for printing a sticker in the language of your choice. Or, visit the main administrative office of the College of Public Health on the first floor of Moulton Hall or your Instructor to ask for one.
2. View the statistics presented in the document titled “M6 Activity – 2010 Portage County Statistics” which lists the number of birth, death, and disease events among Portage County residents in 2010.
3. Discuss the statistics with your assigned group. Consider the various general health and population measures that could be calculated to describe the health and well-being of Portage County. Suggest measures that may be important and calculate them. You must provide at least one substantive group discussion post by Thursday at 11:59PM ET.
4. Then, discuss the interpretation of the measures you calculated and compare them to any credible state or national estimates you can find on the internet. Also, suggest and discuss particular measures that you feel highlight areas of public health concern in Portage County County. You must provide at least one additional group discussion post by Sunday at 11:59PM ET.

 
Module 7 Discussion

Describe at a minimum of one population health effect associated with climate change. Define the BRACE Framework advanced by the CDC and provide at least one mitigation strategy for the effect you have discussed using the BRACE approach.

Review the assigned CDC (2012) article on the

Natural History and Spectrum of Disease

(from Principles of epidemiology in public health, 3rd ed.)Now, put yourself in a journalist’s shoes. Your editor asked you to prepare a 1-page Fact Sheet that briefly summarize the history of a disease timeline for your readers. Therefore, pick a specific disease from any of the other assigned readings and explain its 1) associated exposure, 2) clinical effect, and 3) incubation period. Try to be clear and straightforward in your description.
