Persuasive Request Instructions
Before starting to write the Persuasive Request, you can begin by brainstorming a list of
persuasive topics that are important to you in the workplace. After making this list, select
not only your favorite topic, but the one in which is most significant to you in the
corporate world. You may also consider these points to ponder:
• why previous experiences in the workplace led up to you discussing this topic?
• what message about this request do you want to communicate to your corporate
audience?
• consider who your audience is and their knowledge of the topic?
• what tone will you use to clearly communicate your insights on this persuasive
request topic with your audience?
For the Persuasive Request, you will write a one-page request on the topic of your choice.
For further guidelines on writing persuasive requests, please visit page 220 of the
textbook, which provides a summary and checklist for writing these requests. The
checklist includes:
1) Determine How to Start the Message (direct plan or indirect plan),
2) Justify Your Idea or Request,
3) Deal with Obstacles,
4) Ask Confidently for Action (Ober 220).
An example of a Persuasive Request is provided on page 236. This model may be used
for your assignment, the Persuasive Request. In the next page, you will find an optional
