TOPIC: What are the technologies that have allowed your choice to succeed in the market? What technology choices have they made that positioned them to better appeal to the market, to grow in sales/revenues/donations/membership/etc.?  (My Chosen TOPIC/Organization is “KODAK” for the 1st two journals. So, the Journal has to be related to the KODAK)

For the Journal 3 Assignment, you may pick any emerging technology, as long as it has made it through the innovation stage (I have attached the transcript of the SLIDES/VIDEO for the MODULE). You may apply it to the organization you’ve used for your other assignments, or choose a different one—completely up to you. But you may NOT lift sentences word-for-word from your own papers, or those of others. Your discussion and narrative must be original. For your research paper topic, please follow the template that you have been given.

You will write a journal entry of at least 2.5 pages of content (Must be: 12 pt. Times New Roman double-spaced) in current APA format that focuses on that module/week’s topic. Evaluation will center on the degree to which the entry demonstrates a full understanding of the topic as well as the potential for successful application of technology.

To get you started, one primary web news site has been provided in the Reading and Study folder that exhibits an exemplary journalistic approach to covering emerging facets of the assignment.

Hello everyone welcome to module 5 of comms 562 web strategies for growth. This week we explore emerging media technologies and the role they play in disruptive innovation as we’ve seen earlier. Disruptive innovation begins in one of 2 places culture or new tech traditional mass media books magazines motion pictures newspapers recording radio television used expensive equipment that not only fostered the development of the medium but also kept competitors at bay. While in today’s world of interactive communication there’s only one channel the internet since all content is binary ones and zeroes and as a bonus the price of entry has dropped from multi-million dollar facilities to the price of a good sparkle so these days how does one know when a new media channel has become a disruptive force Well one valid approach is to use the analytical 4 stages of technology. These are the 4 stages of technology invention application innovation and maturation the invention stage is where somebody puts together a few items in their garage and calls it a new invention and in many cases these Saturday morning fun projects go back on the shelf never to have a true public debut application stage finds a use for the invention meaning the new tech device actually can accomplish something even if it’s only to ring a bell or flash some l e D’s and know the consumer is still not impressed the innovation stage is where emerging technologies gets their gold star in the refrigerator some entrepreneur and usually not the original inventor takes the product to market with proper research marketing and a plan to have the public embrace this new tech wonder this is the stage where new media tech becomes disruptive the innovative product is embraced by the consumer and is poised to be the number one threat to incumbent media organizations the last stage of maturation is exactly what you think it means the technology once shiny exciting and a wonder to all who purchase and use that has now matured short sales continue but there’s just too many features at too high of a cost for the public to continue supporting the original product promise when the mature stage technology is attacked by the new start up the incumbent organization reacts in denial busy trashing the upstart followed by the incumbent recognizing that there are many be something good about the newcomer but still does nothing when it’s too late to adapt the organization makes one last mistake purchasing the newcomers technology in the thought that it will allow them to control the disruption. The would be competitor is isolated in a corner of the company culture Meanwhile a group of pre-teens somewhere else in the world is gearing up to replace the sought after product with their own brand and the incumbent can only wonder what just happened if only the mature organization had the foresight to adapt when the Innovation 1st surfaced perhaps for reasons of internal culture investors or bad market evaluation they true is to ignore the opportunity instead hunkering down for the duration now it’s just a matter of time before staff is cup then product quality and finally the slow transfer to life support using residual real estate and equipment assets that’s why it’s so important for the mature company to recognize the period of opportunity provided by the innovation stage it’s a time to consider how to adapt to the changing fabric of this new disruption and revitalize the organization for new opportunities your next assignment is the challenge all organizations face as emerging tech increases the pace of disruptive innovation so locate the course content module for this week’s net link reads additional resources assignments and due dates have a bless the day.
