2. Reflecting on the discussions, readings, intellipath content and assignments in this course, what are the most important leader, follower, cultural and situational characteristics that contribute to effective leadership? Why?
3. What role does technology play in the efficacy and influence of leadership in the 21st century?

The competencies that I was able to develop in researching and writing the course Comprehensive Project was that I learn various kinds of leadership styles and how I could use them to motivate others. Any type of leadership style can be used successfully as long as they are used in the right time and with the right approach and situation. I was able to leverage my knowledge and gained a lot more knowledge by reading the assignments about leaders and their influences and this help give me a better understanding of how to becoming a great manager/leader. Also I’ve learned how to balance responsibilities and how to become a better leader to myself and future employees I might have to lead. These competencies and knowledge well help me support my career advancement in management by teaching how to use different leadership styles and approaches and how to go about using them to be a better effective leader.
An effective leader must have certain qualities that fit his or her ability to lead a company or its departments. These qualities can be learned through education, or be learned from new skills and technologies. These qualities are normally enforced for mid to upper management positions, it is vital to have other workers in the company who also have these skills and abilities to secure quality improvement processes are protected and company standards are being kept up to date.
21st Century Leadership is a viewpoint of leadership predetermined to respond to the unique opportunities and challenges of today’s sociality. Thoughtful of an expanded ideal of leadership, it draws upon and joins practices and theories from a wide range of disciplines and traditions to encourage practical knowledge and transmuting change in service of the world.

Some competencies I developed in researching and writing my paper were how to properly complete research and what is considered an approved source. I learned that brainstorming works for me and allows me to choose from these ideas on what and who I want to write about. Developing an outline allows me to put my thoughts into a logical order and ensures the assignment specifics are included. I also understand the importance of planning and implementing a schedule to allow deadlines to be met. I learned something in the Army that I use today and instill in my employees and that is to follow the five Ps. The five Ps are proper planning prevents poor performance.
Leadership is defined as the ability of an individual to influence others to achieve a common goal (Editorial Board [EB], 2019, p. 4). I learned that the leaders that I have chosen to write about have all had an impact on my life and the way I lead people today. I understand that leadership and management are not the same thing. However, leadership and management are similar since both use constructive thinking, reasoning, and problem solving (EB, 2019, p. 5)
Power is defined as “possession of control, authority, or influence over others” (Power, n.d.). Power is used by leaders to influence others to do things. Power is linked to leaders because they must be able to influence others to achieve the goal of the organization (American InterContinental University, 2015). There are different types of power but the importance is how to influence others with that power. Different leadership styles use power to influence in different ways. Understanding that a leader can be developed and taught how to lead is also important.
Cultural diversity is an important factor to consider as a leader since the workforce is very diverse and the organization must follow certain laws and guidelines to prevent discrimination (American InterContinental University, 2015). Understanding what can and cannot be said and done regarding employees and coworkers is important for a leader.
Change will happen in an organization and a leader will be responsible for implementing this change. It is important to understand the stages in resistance to change. Choosing the right change model will have an impact on the change and how well it is received. Communicating the change and the benefits of the change will help those affected by change accept and embrace the change, and in some cases, become change agents.
The knowledge I have gained form this course will help me in understanding the importance of leadership and why it is important to be flexible with the style that is used since no one style is the right one. I understand the leadership style needs to fit the situation. I have also learned the importance of influence as it relates to power. The ability to influence others to accomplish a common goal or individual goal is something I am focusing on with my direct reports. I also learned that there are different generations of employees and that I need to ensure I identify this and communicate in a way that all the generations understand that I am there to assist them in their success. My ultimate goal is to become a transformational leader because it elevates concerns for achievement and levels of maturity of the followers and it will prove to me that I have made a difference in the lives of others.
