Healthcare policy
Five-page paper and presentation
Topic and Instructions
Topic: Mental Health Policy
INSTRUCTIONS:
Individual Paper and Presentation Imagine you work for a healthcare corporation, association, think tank or other non-governmental entity, who has been charged with producing a white paper examining a particular health policy issue. The purpose of a white paper is to help policy makers understand a particular issue and the possible options for addressing it. In the US, the term is now often applied to papers issued by nongovernmental organizations and research institutes that are designed to educate decision makers and the public on key policy issues, to help them better understand both the nature of the problem and the range of potential solutions. In this assignment, you
will write a five page white paper about a health policy issue
of your choice discussed in the course. The final paper should summarize the issue or problem, potential stakeholders impacted, the policy challenges and potential policy solutions. It should demonstrate Generated: 2/11/2021 Page 5 of 11 understanding of the political determinants of health and provide a plan or program of action that takes into account a) current and future political, social and economic contexts (e.g. political changes involving a new constitution); and b) anticipates potential outcomes, obstacles, failures, etc. Points will be deducted for going over or under the page limit.
Appropriate references: All sections of the group project must include library research, and each group must use multiple sources as indicated in each section of the assignment above. Most of these sources are to be published academic journal articles; others may be organizational websites, government websites, or other reputable Internet sources and other publications. The group may use textbooks sparingly and other books, but no Wikipedia. Use the NSU Library electronic databases for research and finding appropriate academic journal articles. Be sure to use published academic journal articles as a primary source, not less-reliable Internet web sites. Reference the paper very carefully and tightly. The group may use company websites, but do so sparingly and remember that what a company has on their own website may be positively biased in their favor. Health Affairs, Journal of Healthcare Management, American Journal of Public Health (AJPH), Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), Journal of Law, Medicine, and Ethics (JLME), Families in Society: The Journal of Contemporary Social Services. Appearance, punctuation, grammar, neatness, and spelling count. These assignments must be well argued with credible sources and facts demonstrating critical thinking skills to receive full credit. The paper should have an introduction, body, conclusion, and reference section. Paper should also have appropriate headings and sub-headings in the body of the paper as outlined above. Be sure to use the required title page. Note that this is a research paper, so avoid all first person, pronouns and personal opinion
