This semester started with a great pleasure to meet Dr Stephany is a new faculty member (assistant professor) in culture study and social thought.
Personally, I’m really interested in studying and exploring the black feminist movement and their contribution towards education and social life, I want to enrich my knowledge about many things such a queer theory, LGBTQ, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
In addition, as a man who came from the middle east, conservative people, I would like to get the opportunity to know more about western culture and compare this knowledge to my background and see the difference between women’s empowerment in the middle east and western culture. Even when I’m learning in the Western culture, I notice the huge differences in gender equality and equity. In Saudi Arabia with the new leaders and new and fresh bloods in the royal family we start to see the age of women impower and how our leaders represent the important of gender equality. Back in KSA, the society itself still exploring how to interact with the other gender because these years we start to have a mixed gender work environment.
On the educational sector, the ministry of education started to have a female teachers to teach 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders instead of male teacher after seeing the different results that indicted that female teachers can achieve more with young students which affect their academic success.
Hopefully this course will answer the complex relationships between gender and education. And how to add these values and knowledge to the Saudi community, especially by teaching sex education and build an equal education for the next generation.
