Part 1: Conflict with Teams

What were the primary sources of the conflict? What interventions can be used to improve the quality of a team?

Conflict is inevitable, especially in the teams working for projects in an organization because the members often have differing opinions. Conflict may arise between the managers, supervisors, co-workers, subordinates, or even the external stakeholders. While this is the case, team members ought to recognize ways of managing the conflicts that occasionally arise, to achieve and overcome the challenges (Foldy & Buckley, 2016). My team experienced a substantive type of conflict because it revolved around goals, tasks, and allocation of resources. The conflict was between the project manager and the software engineer who could not agree on the right software program to use to facilitate work performance.

The primary source of conflict involved the software engineer who preferred using a particular software program due to its user interface and customization capabilities. At the same time, the project manager wanted us to use a different program in the project, given that it was capable of producing more detailed reports. Since none of them was willing to compromise their positions, conflict arose. Solving this conflict involved the whole team, and it initiated preparation for reaching a resolution where we acknowledged the conflict, discussed the impact, and agreed to communicate and cooperate (Shonk, 2020). The team clarified the positions, listed facts, beliefs, and assumptions, and then reached a consensus. It was agreed that we should use a software program proposed by the project manager and not that of the software engineer.

Part 2: Creativity in Teams

Evaluate yourself using the three indices of creativity. What strategies can you use to enhance your creativity?

According to the study that evaluated the indices of creativity across different countries, three indices were considered, that is, talent, tolerance, and technology. In regards to the technology, I would rate myself at one because I directly involve myself in research and development. In consideration of the tolerance index, I am not bad at treating foreigners, and I often embrace diversity and value the ethnic minorities. Still, I wouldn’t say I like much about the existence of the LGBT group, primarily gay and lesbianism. Therefore, I would rate tolerance as 2. I am still not very creative when it comes to the talent index, and I would rate myself as 7. To enhance my talent creativity, I need to be an explainer so that I maximize the quality of knowledge as I advance in my career. I will also have to practice openness so that I get motivated to consider new concepts, ideas and experiences (Markman, 2015).
