We’ve now studied the history of animal welfare, which has established where we came from that got us to where we are today in animal sheltering.  In Module 2, we examined vital leadership skills needed to be the visionary leader that can help organizations and communities realize the changes modern shelters need to make in order to save more pets who are needlessly dying. 

Now we begin the journey of discussing how data can help us get there.

Here’s where many leaders get stuck.  Often the perception is that a leader can’t be “good” at data and also be empathetic, emotionally intelligent and have a pulse on their organization’s culture and the feelings of his/her team.

The purpose of this assignment is to understand what leading a data-driven culture can look like and analyzing whether we think a data-driven leader can also be an emotionally intelligent leader.

2. Create a reflection piece based on the following:

The article How CEOs Can Lead a Data-Driven Culture discusses two different types of CEOs. Describe the difference between the influence a data-driven CEO has on a culture vs. a CEO who makes emotion-based decisions. Give an example of how both types could affect life-saving efforts.

Additionally, in your opinion, and after watching Simon Sinek’s video on Empathy from our prior module on leadership, can an empathetic director also be data driven? Why/Why not?
