There are 7 questions for this test carrying a total of 20%.
Answer all Questions in 2 hours.
Submission is through iTa’leem
The Figure below that was extracted from your group project, use it to Answer Question 1.
1) During your project, one group were given a task of building a network of Level
4
D KICT building IIUM (as shown in the figure above). Their recommendation was to assign IPv4 address in the following priority order: 10 users for management as the top priority, 200 users for students as the medium priority and 50 users for low priority users, which might be guest.
Since they didn’t specify the IPv4 address they used, please help them to suggest the suitable IPv4 address that you will apply VLSM to show in details how you will calculate the IPv4 addresses required for assigning to:
a. 10 users for management as the top priority (1.5 Marks)

2) Trace the IPv4 address that is in the 49th position within the class of IPv4 addresses that have more number of hosts IPv4 addresses than the number IPv4 network addresses, but it was transformed to /26
a. Is it a valid (host) IPv4 address? YES, or NO
(0.5 mark)
NO
b. Prove why you select either YES or NO
(1 mark)
There must be room for broadcast address within the subnet, which means that at least one IPv4 network address must reserved
3) Given the IPv4 address, original subnet mask, and new subnet mask below: (4 Marks)
Host IP Address:
192.168.100.200
Original Subnet Mask
255.255.255.0
New Subnet Mask:
255.255.255.224
Answer the following:
(0.5 Mark each)
a. What is the Number of Subnet Bits?
b. What is the Number of Subnets Created?

c. What is the Number of Host Bits per Subnet?
d. What is the Number of
Hosts
per Subnet?

e. What is the Network Address of this Subnet?
192.168.100.192
f. What is the IPv4 Address of First Host on this Subnet?
192.168.100.193
g. What is the IPv4 Address of Last Host on this Subnet?
192.168.100.222
h. What is the IPv4 Broadcast Address on this Subnet?
192.168.100.223
4) Subnet 2001: A01: :

5) A web page is created on 1st Jan 2021 and make available online at 11:59pm that day, the next day the web master added some information on the web page. Today you request the page from the server.
a. What is the name of server that will make the page available to you?
(0.5 Mark)
Web server
b. Which part of the header is responsible for the history of the page?
(0.5 Mark)
Metadata component
c. What will be the details history of the web page from its creation to the time you get access to it?
(1 Mark)
The original content plus the updated information, as well as, the date of updating and
the author who created the new content
6) If host A is sending an email to host B, describe the protocols and port numbers to be used when host A doesn’t want the email to be stored anywhere? (2 Marks)
IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) is the ideal protocol since it will allow the user at host B to read the email while still stored in host A. IMAP uses port 143 to listen to email conversations.
7) Assume you are in KICT building and you need to use IIUM wifi, how could DHCP and DNS enable you to have an online access to
www.cisco.com
(2 Marks)
DCHP will be used for the configuration of the devices connected to the IIUM wifi and the internet. It greatly helps in dynamically assigning IP addresses to the devices connected to the network. DNS on the other hand will help in the management of domains and assignment of names to the devices connected to the WiFi network.
