1.The most interesting thing that I found in levels of biology is the concept of population. Population is a level where there is a group of multiple organisms of the same species within a specific area (Yearout, 2019). For example, a group of elephants in Africa will be considered as a population. Also, in this level of biology, it is based on organisms that have either prokaryotic or eukaryotic cells grouped together in the same area. Population level comes right after the creation of organism and before it forms to a community, where the organism start populating different species. 

This is my favorite level of biology because there are many things that affect how populations come about. One of the favorite things about how the process works is interbreeding. This is a process where an individual must mate to another individual and produce a fertile offspring. As a result, can populate on a regional, countrywide, island or continental scale (BD Editors, 2017). Not only that but genetic variation can occur in some populations, which results in some individuals to not be able to survive and reproduce. 

Before I read about this topic and this type level of biology, I did not know that there were many factors affecting the size and distribution of population.  One of the things that I found in which I never learned before is how most populations fluctuate in size as time passes. For example, if you have plenty of resources such as food, water, and a favorable environment, then population can grow. Lets say, if most of the population where predation is strong, then populations decrease over time (BD Editors, 2017). I conclude from this phenomenon that plenty of limiting factors affect how populations size grow or decreases.

2.The most interesting thing I learned in this course is evolution. Evolution is the theory that all species we’re born from a single microorganism and that gradually with time organisms develop traits to increase their chance of survivability. Natural selection is when characteristics for certain individuals in a species will show and those characteristics could be favorable to the current environment, so that individual survives longer and is more likely to mate. Evolution falls under the organism level of the “levels of biology”.

Why is evolution my favorite subject? Evolution brings diversity to life. It allows organism to overcome challenges that are presented to it. Evolution is what makes the world exciting and refreshing. Plus during the evolution chapter we got to study more about different types of animals and that was fun.

What did I learn? As stated before, I learned about different aspects of other animals. Like in my discussion assignment for chapter six, my subject was on the red panda. I learned that red pandas have a false thumb and that they were called pandas before the black and white variant was called pandas and they have a stink gland like skunks. One student did their discussion on Tasmanian devils, and the different locations that they live in. I originally thought they lived in tropic forest areas, but they actually live in all types of different biomes.

I will be discussing why natural skin and hair care products are better to use compared to cheaper or lesser quality products. Some resistance I could get from this topic could be the expenses of some natural products, as well as the fact that some women may have products they’ve been using for years and have no desire to change brands. I will use Ethos, Logos and Pathos to overcome this resistance. Ethos is about credibility and I will demonstrate my credibility because I use the products regularly and have first-hand experience with them, I will also use valid sources for my topic. Logos is about logic, so I will back up the brands with statistics and data on how the product is made, and the evidence behind why it is better than alternative products. Pathos is an emotional connect to the audience, so I will discuss the harmful practices of name brand beauty products and the questionable ethics certain companies practice.  Using ethos, pathos, and logos I will relay to my audience why natural skincare may be pricier, but you get your money’s worth using them.

2 . When trying to persuade you must have your stance, supporting evidence, and delivery targeted toward your thesis. If it doesn’t tie back, it probably isn’t helping your argument. You also must be aware that for every belief that you might have, there is something to contradict it. That’s why focusing on good utilization of pathos, ethos, and logos would be your best defense for any opposing viewpoints.

My persuasive speech topic is fairly linear, I’ve chosen why you should buy a computer instead of build one. For something like this, I think it would be difficult to use an emotional appeal (pathos) to convince people of my point. But, just like a used car salesman, I will attempt to use logic (ethos) and self-credibility (logos) to sell my point. Professional opinions and statistics or rates are going to be my best bet.
