1. Determine why studies indicate there is a higher level of mental illness in female offenders, including what factors are most significant in the higher rates of mental illness.

3. Discuss how a psychologist or other mental health professionals can foster positive mother/child relationships when a mother is incarcerated.
4. Identify appropriate methods for reintegrating female offenders, including how female offenders can be prepared for reintegration with their families and work life.

Week 6:
In 75-100 words, answer the following questions.
1. What is the Doctrine of Parens Patriae? Is this an appropriate role for the state to have had or have?
2. What are some of the alternatives to incarceration for a juvenile offender? How effective are these alternatives?
3. What are the requirements of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974?
4. What are the essential components of adequate aftercare planning for a juvenile offender?
5. What is the significance of the case of In Re Gault (1967)?
6. What is an example of a juvenile status offense? Should some of these status offenses be abolished or limited in regard to punishment? Why?
While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA 7 formatting guidelines.
Week 7:
This assignment has two parts.
Part 1:
Review the sample behavioral treatment plan provided in the textbook under Table 14.3.
Prepare a similar behavioral treatment plan based on the following individual:
1. Susan Smithe is a 37-year-old female inmate who is incarcerated for armed robbery. Susan suffers from mental illness. Susan is consistently verbally abusive of prison staff, physically aggressive with other inmates, and self-injures by battering her head, arms, and legs against walls and floors. Her self-injuries often require medical attention. Susan suffers from a fear of being alone and of insects.
While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
Part 2:
In 300-500 words, reflect on why your behavioral treatment plan will benefit Susan Smithe.
The reflection should provide a minimum of two to three peer-reviewed resources to support your explanations.

Week 8:
In 1,250-1,500 words, do the following:
1. Describe some of the theoretical best practices for restorative justice, crime prevention, and corrections.
2. Explain how the theoretical best practices are, and are not, manifested in current correctional settings in the United States.
3. Explain different ways to improve rehabilitative services to make them more readily utilized within the criminal justice system, and better aligned to the theoretical best practices you identified.
Provide five to seven peer reviewed resources to support your explanations.
