Registered nurses have always been termed as the largest group with the most demanding
role in the entire medical field across the world (Munro, & Hope 2020). In addition to lobbying
on matters that directly influence the role of registered nurses, the American Nurses Association
takes valiant stances on matters that, not only empower nurses but are also vital to its members.
In connection to this issue, the American Nurses Association has always taken a steady and
uncompromised positions on a range of issues including workplace violence, Medicare reform,
the essence of safe nursing staffing, whistleblower protections for health care staffs, and
sufficient reimbursement for health care services.
The selected issue i.e., empowering of registered nurses supports the mission of
American Nurses Association by supporting nurses to lead change. The American Nurses
Association understands that acknowledging the essential value of nurses is a critical starting
point for every nursing organization. Nurses work in all healthcare settings and own distinctive
view given in several diverse specialties and roles. Due to this, nurses can contribute to and
provide insights on the most viable ways of improving health care in a country (Tluczek et.al
2019). This can only be accomplished by considering nurses to be paramount.
While the dedication portrayed by the registered nurses often implies that self-care is not
among the top priorities, it is important to focus on the main agenda. Heathier and empowered
nurses are associated with greater staff retentions for organizations, and improved patient
outcomes. The American Nurses Association believes that treating nurses with respect that their
commitment deserves is an important way of leading the nursing profession to shape the future
of health care and nursing.
