This effort of organizations struggling to reduce and right-size their information foot-print using data governance techniques like data cleansing and de-duplication is necessary for better management of resources without being misused and in return prevent aspects such as losses of data and redundancy (Smallwood, 2014). Data can be managed better through other ways rather than duplicating data always or unnecessarily hence helps data and information are managed better. Moreover. It helps also in data protection from possible losses and ensuring that all the system is well handled through their functioning in corporate social responsibilities functions. Furthermore, data cleansing upholds good decision making through data analysis which can be well combined with the overall system management of an organization, and organizations ensure that they can safeguard their data from theft and attacks from the strangers (Smallwood, 2014).

In chapter two it spells out or defines the difference of information governance, IT governance and Data governances though it has great confusion in their terms but they have a distinct difference (Smallwood, 2014). The three terms are the subsets or subfields of corporate governance and information governance is part of wider IT governance which is an extensive part of Data governance. Information governance is associated with management approaches of business compliance-driven in retaining and dispositioning business records. It involves both structured and unstructured data, while data governance is majorly an IT responsibility which takes accounts of all structured and unstructured data in relation to storage and transfers of data. IT governance, on the other hand, is an overall or primary way of ensuring that stakeholder’s investments in IT bring value in the business and contribute positively towards business goals and objectives (Smallwood, 2014).
