“No amount of advertising, no clever marketing campaign, at any price, could
have produced or created this much goodwill. It’s a better business model.”
(Ray Anderson, former CEO of Interface)
Instructions:
As discussed in class in Week 4, the business case for sustainability has been well
documented in both theory and in practice. From attracting and retaining top talent to
improving operational efficiency, an increasing number of local-global organizations are
defining business strategy through a lens of sustainability to realize the many business
benefits.
The goal of this assignment is to prepare you, an aspiring global business manager, with
the knowledge, skills and abilities to effectively communicate the business case for
sustainability.
Read all questions before you begin working on the questions. The questions are related
(dependent) on each other and before beginning answering any one question, it is good to
know what the entire assignment requires.
Be sure to include proper citations/references according to the APA reference style.
Should you have any questions regarding how to reference works properly, please visit the
Learning Commons, the Library and/or access APA @ Conestoga. Failure to reference
“borrowed” materials properly will result in a grade of 0 and, depending on the severity of the
plagiarism, an academic warning or offence.

Process to Complete Assignment:
1. Conduct exploratory research and identify four (4) organizations with sustainability
strategies.
• You may wish to focus on organizations that you are interested in working for.
• Be sure to select organizations of varying size, geographic location, etc.
• List the organizations in a table, like the one included in Appendix A below.
2. For each organization identified above, conduct in-depth research to identify:
• Three (3) distinct events that occurred in the environment that would have caused the
businesses to consider implementing a sustainability solution.
• What were the Business Drivers (motivators) for business sustainability?
3. There is now a total of 12 drivers in your table (four organizations x 3 drivers per
organization).
• For each of these drivers (12 in total) provide one reputable resource for information, in
APA format.
• Do not use the organizations website or related publications, as this information may
be bias.
4. Select one organization, listed in your chart, to profile in greater detail.
• Provide a 400 – 500 (2 pages written) word explanation detailing the three drivers
(motivators) for sustainability and how this approach has improved their triple bottom
line performance.
5. While some of the drivers among organizations may be the same, be sure to provide at
least one unique driver per organization.
Format:
Include a title page, which should provide the following information:
• Your Name and Student Number
• Course Identifier and Section # you are in
• Title for the Submission
• Date of Submission
• Save your file in the following format: Sec# Your Name Assign 2 x
Example:
In the Appendix A, there is an example for Interface, which should help you work
through the assignment.
• Interface is an example of an organization that has attracted and retained top talent,
created new markets and reduced operational expenses due to their sustainability
strategy.
A good resource to get familiar with is the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) that provides key
sustainability reporting by global companies https://www.globalreporting.org/Pages/default.aspx
