Healthcare organizations continually seek to optimize healthcare performance. For years, this approach was a three-pronged one known as the Triple Aim, with efforts focused on improved population health, enhanced patient experience, and lower healthcare costs.

More recently, this approach has evolved to a Quadruple Aim by including a focus on improving the work life of healthcare providers. Each of these measures are impacted by decisions made at the organizational level, and organizations have increasingly turned to EBP to inform and justify these decisions.

To Prepare:

• Read the articles by Sikka, Morath, & Leape (2015); Crabtree, Brennan, Davis, & Coyle (2016); and Kim et al. (2016) provided in the Resources.
• Reflect on how EBP might impact (or not impact) the Quadruple Aim in healthcare.
• Consider the impact that EBP may have on factors impacting these quadruple aim elements, such as preventable medical errors or healthcare delivery.

To Complete:

Write a brief analysis (no longer than 2 pages) of the connection between EBP and the Quadruple Aim.

Your analysis should address how EBP might (or might not) help reach the Quadruple Aim, including each of the four measures of:

Evidence-Based Practice and the Quadruple Aim

The triple AIM does not categorically outline the weight of the workforce role in the evolution of healthcare. In support of this, the decrease of incentives from the end of the 20th century has resulted in a shift from an intimate service-based workforce to a business-minded and monetary manipulative workforce focused more on making profits than giving an intimate healthcare service (Melnyk & Gallagher-Ford, 2019). This has led to poor relations among workmates, leading to higher health care costs. Every employee must have a gut check to measure their happiness and a reason for their work in healthcare through a three-question soul searching experience. Whether the employees are treated with nobility and esteem, appreciated for what they do, and whether they have all they require to complete their tasks and live their personal lives well. If an employee cannot acknowledge these questions, then the triple Aim is compromised. Comment by Michael J. Dusek: What is this? Low optimism and the fear of physical and psychological injury has led to the nursing work discontent. As such, engaging all employees involved would make such a milestone in healthcare. This would be done by making the latter have a sense of belonging and appreciation, which brings happiness to them that they can do their job effectively to the work-life they are committing to (Crabtree et al., 2016). In turn, this brings a sense of achievement to every member of the healthcare fraternity. The UK has adopted the idea of an involved staff that they should image every move in a merry way related to their work, the people they collaborate with, and the firm they work in. Healthcare providers’ improved work-life can be measured by immersion on topics like workforce engagement and workforce safety. As a result, we can say an engaged, productive workforce leads to lower health care costs with an improved work-life of health care providers in the long run. Comment by Michael J. Enhanced patient experience is a result of maintaining a corporate philosophy of caregiving. The latter is brought about by a series of practical ideas that are the backbone to clinical decision making. Excellent and effective clinical decision-making programs result in quality patient outcomes. This series of practical ideas include research evidence and evidence-based theories, clinical competency, and finally, patient preferences and values (Melnyk & Gallagher-Ford, 2019). However, preventable medical errors that might lead to death are a significant threat to patient satisfaction. These might be due to depressed healthcare providers, who might not be fully dedicated or rather focused on their work. Comment by Michael J. Dusek: Add a article before this word. Barriers of EBP, like resistance to change, lack of evidence-based procedures and policies, among others, might impose a threat to achieving the quadruple Aim. The dedicated support of top administrators can combat these barriers by investing in education and skill-building programs for their clinicians and maintaining the organizational culture and support. Facilitators of EBP such as well outlined research publications, integration of EBP into health professional curricula, and therefore give support to the sole Aim of achieving the Quadruple Aim (Sikka et al., 2015). Implementations of EBP by nurses who serve as the backbone of health care bring about cultural change. This is achieved by enlightening nurses on the theory, practice, and circulation of EBP. As a result, this contributes to the advancement of registered nurses in the field of their expertise. Nurses are equipped with setting clinical questions, conducting literature searches, examining and assessing evidence, and then clarifying the information into something clinically relevant. Which contributes to improved population health and enhanced patient experience in the long run. Implementation of EBP impacts every aspect of the Quadruple Aim, hence maintaining a quality experience in the medical sector by all the parties involved. Comment by Michael J. Thanks for sharing this draft with me. On the appointment form, you asked me about the clarity of your ideas. As a reader, I did have some trouble gaining your message in this piece. As I mentioned in our last review, I’d like you to focus on being direct in your writing. Many of the sentences that you include here have multiple, complicated ideas in them. When you include that many complex ideas in one sentence, it becomes difficult for the reader to keep everything straight. When you are dealing with complicated ideas, using simple, direct sentences makes is easier for the reader to get your message. Don’t fall into the trap of crafting complicated sentences when offering complicated ideas to the reader. Doing this is making it difficult for the reader to gain your meaning. So, I’d like you to focus on expressing your ideas using simple sentence.
