MERGER SCENARIOS
SCENARIO 1 : Mashenka Industries, which is based in Ukraine, is a mining company that specializes in silicon chip production. Donnelly Technologies, in Dublin Ireland, manufactures microprocessors used in Apple and Android devices all over the world. Donnelly has made an offer to acquire Mashenka Industries for 7.4 Billion. The new company will be headquartered in Ireland because of tax advantages, and the CEO of Donnelly will be the CEO. Ukrainian Executives will move to Ireland, but operations and mining employees will remain in Ukraine.

SCENARIO 2: Dae Wung Manufacturing is based in South Korea and manufactures large engines for aircraft and passenger trains. Bullet Industries is based in Perth, Australia . Bullet builds train cars that are used in public transit in all major American and European cities (such as the New York City Subway and the tube system in London). Bullet wants to merge with Dae Wung because of supply chain advantages. Each company will remain in their base countries and component engines will be shipped to Australia for manufacturing. There will be Co-CEOs

Based on what you see in the country comparison, do you think these 2 organizations would have an easy or difficult time blending their operations and employees?
What will the hardest challenge be with the merger or acquisition you selected?
If you were the CEO in #1 or the Co- CEOs in #2, what would you do to ensure the merger or acquisition is a success?
Re-read the reading assignments about international mergers in the Cross Cultural Communications folder in FILES. Remember what we learned about Daimler-Benz Chrysler, Tata-Jaguar and the others. Don’t forget about the financial implications of an unsuccessful merger and be sure to address that in your essay
