Employee reward systems refer to programs set up by a company to reward performance and motivate employees on individual and/or group levels. They are normally considered separate from salary but may be monetary in nature or otherwise have a cost to the company.

An employee reward system has to fit the employees working at an organization.  There can’t be one size fits everyone as everyone is driven to perform differently.  Some employees value time off, other public recognition, while another group may enjoy self-improvement.  A companies program has been tailored to the individual and based on their performance levels.  This is where supervisors knowing their people is very important.  If the employees have the opportunity to have a say in the types of rewards they receive, this will drive them to work harder for an organization.

Booz Allen Hamilton is an organization that understands that people have this difference.  On their employee benefits page, something that stands out to me is that they want “you to be you. (Booz Allen Hamilton (2020)” The reason behind them wanting you to be you is they value the diversity that you bring, “because solving tomorrow’s biggest challenges requires a diverse and inclusive universe of doers, drivers, and dreamers (Booz Allen Hamilton (2020).” Not only does this motivate people but it makes them feel accepted in being the best them they have.
