Abstract

Human trafficking has been a primary aspect of forensic psychology for many years. In most cases, this act has been impacting society. In the United States,

human trafficking has gone beyond to affect the national security of the nation. Besides, economic and social effects have adversely been impacted in society. In this
case, families have been the primary figures that are affected due to human trafficking. Results in this study indicate that Homeland Security has majored to combat
this issue. The research suggests that there still exist challenges in combating human trafficking. However, it is accurate that programs have been introduced and

Human Trafficking

Introduction

Currently, forensic psychology considers a study or practice of law and psychology. The line in which forensic psychology revolves around considers different

areas of work but is not limited to prisons, law organizations, and rehabilitation firms. The United States has established the Department of Homeland Security to
focus on crimes in different regions. Many cases emerge and require psychologists’ intervention: they involve the amplification of excessive power, coercion, or

fraud to acquire or obtain some commercial sex or labor. This study evaluates how for many years, several women, children, and men have been trafficked in the
whole world, particularly in the United States. Individuals or any coalition can experience the act; hence, it can vary from unique ages, gender, races, or nationalities.
However, the most crucial thing is that the traffickers can apply manipulation, false promises, and force promises, or romantic relationships to make sure that victims
are ruled into the trap of human trafficking, and the “job” is well paying. Statement Problem

Barriers in the language or fearing the traffickers and law enforcement officers frequently keep the victims from applying for help. Hence, the latter makes the

trafficking of humans a crime that is hidden in society. Notably, the traffickers search for the individuals that look susceptible for different reasons. The latter involves
instability in politics, natural disasters, lack of safety net in the society, economic hardship, emotional and psychological vulnerability. Surprisingly, the trauma-
impacted to the victims by the traffickers can make them not identify or seek help from anyone despite those in the high public settings. Although various
misconceptions and myths exist, identifying the primary indicators in human trafficking is the initial procedure for determining and saving victims’ lives. Notably,

not all the indicators that are presented can be present in each situation of human trafficking. Besides, the absence or presence of a certain indicaparticularnot the
real proof of human trafficking. However, a victim, as well as public safety, is paramount. Presumably, the suspected traffickers cannot be directly confronted, or

a victim alerted of an occurred suspicion. Most importantly, it is upon the law enforcement officers to investigate a suspected case in humans trafficking. The latter
might help gather new approaches in human trafficking. Effects on Human Trafficking

Effects on National Security

As an act of crime, the rule of law is violated through the trafficking of humans. As a result, international law and national jurisdiction are threatened. A crime

organized is among the most robust approach for unduly market influence, illegal redistribution of national wealth, societal relations, and political power (Gryshova,
Kofman, & Petrenko, 2019). Nations responding to post-conflict situations, civil unrest, and natural disaster can find acute effects. Challenges that in the
correspondence are faced by governments become in stark contrast to chances created people engage in the trafficking of humans (Terziev et al., 2018). An
underlying threat is posed by human trafficking, and the issues increasingly become a global security concern. Trafficking is an organized crime that is a complex
manifestation in the global economy; thus, it results in human rights violations. Besides, trafficking leads to extreme hardship to millions of persons suspected to
worldwide as being victims (Greenbaum et al., 2017). Also, nations’ social and economic structures and financial markets are affected where the act is allowed to exist.
Despite having financial power and being an organized act of crime, trafficking has an interlocking and complex impact on the economic, political, social, and human
spheres. Dangerous and destabilizing effects of trafficking of humans range from direct loss in the economy, readily recognized violence, primary migration concerns,
and immediate loss in the economy (Marburger & Pickover, 2020). All these aspects go up to equally serious, less easily quantified, but complex impacts of harms and
risks of social, health and safety, environmental, as well as human rights violations.

Trafficking of people challenges the development of prosperous societies, stable, legitimate economies, and working intensely against political interest’s

reconciliation with human rights and humanitarian obligations. Therefore, human trafficking and interrelated and broad impacts have led to cumulative global peace,
stability, and security threat. Effects on Families

Trafficking of humans has impacts on the individuals it victimizes in all their areas of life. Every stage process of human trafficking can include sexual,

psychological, and physical violence and abuse. Besides, it leads to manipulation, torture, deprivation, and abusive living and working conditions. Different from other
violent crimes, human trafficking results in repeated and prolonged trauma. Research and documentation describe children, men, and women to be abused explicitly
in exploitative conditions (Winterdyk, 2018). These may result in long-term and short-term physical injuries as well as deaths and disabilities. The greater risk of
individuals trafficked is in the chance of getting HIV infections. Human trafficking victims’ experience of trauma includes anxiety, alienation, depression,

post-traumatic stress disorder, aggression, and concentration difficulties. Trauma worsens in the process of trafficking, and beyond the end of being exploited, the
trauma persists. Children victims are vulnerable to trafficking due to a lack of experience with abusive practices and immaturity (Zimmerman & Kiss, 2017). The
practices might stunt their developments (physical) further and lead to continued victimization due to persistent social and developmental challenges. Human
trafficking behavior is hard to understand for a third party. The latter is due to challenging comprehension of the situation by the victims. The victims find it hard to
fathom what has occurred to them or explain it to other people (Lyneham & Voce, 2020). To those around them and the support people, victims can appear too
hostile, irritable, ungrateful, aggressive, and uncooperative. Victims are attached to the stigma that shows significant and impacts ongoing as far as their lives are
concerned. There is a possibility of facing rejection from the community and the family experienced by the victim’s trauma. The person ends up being isolated, which
often leads to his or her termination. Consequences in the long-run concerning human trafficking for individuals are complex and rely on various factors that
guarantee less or no recovery. The experience has a further impact on revictimization. The primary effects of trafficking people incorporate several components,
including victim support and treatment and prosecution and apprehension of offenders. Trafficker’s assets and proceeds of crime offset the costs of trial and
apprehension. Tax revenue reduction and human resource loss result due to human trafficking (Konrad et al., 2017). Migration’s financial benefits are redirected due
to human trafficking. The families and the community, legitimate employers, and the government suffer due to traffickers and their associates. Studies reveal that the
generated income from organized crimes has become global and significant. Exploitation in nature is ongoing, and human trafficking produces a regular and stable
income source as far as criminal networks are concerned (Estevens, 2018). Arguably, the families involved in the illegal activities are benefiting in the process.
However, such resources are not legit thus cannot be justified by the families (Chisolm-Straker et al., 2019). In fact, it would right to suggest that human trafficking
benefit one family economically at the cost of another family. That is the criminal’s families and victim’s family, respectively. Programs Put in Place To fight Human
Trafficking. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) is an agency that is leading to serve and protect people; thus, making the assistance and identity of victims
paramount. Each day the Homeland Security Investigations sends its agents move around the globe to disrupt, dismantle and uncover human trafficking. Perhaps,
the agents might meet with the worst of humanity. That is, traffickers of humans making a fortune from victim’s commercial. The latter might be achieved through
deportation, cruelty, psychological manipulation, false promises, threats of harm, and sexual abuse. HIS should employ an approach that is victim-centered where the
value should be equal in rescue, stabilization, and identification of victims (DHS, 2020). Also, prosecution and investigation of traffickers should be their primary focus.
Dedicating groups for human places by the agency should be the key thing in every special agent heading to the field offices (Lyneham & Voce, 2020). The special
agents should identify proactive cross-border organizations conducting the trafficking of humans. Besides, priority should be in the investigations to minimize the risk,
threatening public safety and national security (Terziev et al 2018) The specialists for victim assistance are an integral part of the HIS effort

threatening public safety and national security (Terziev et al., 2018). The specialists for victim assistance are an integral part of the HIS effort.5

Therefore, they should ensure access for victims concerning services and rights to which the law entitles them. Perhaps, the specialists should guarantee the victims
essential assistance required to actively and fully participate in the process of criminal justice (DHS, 2020). On the other hand, the specialist forensic interviews should
conduct legally defensible and victim-centered forensics interviews. The primary aspects that might guarantee the HIS monitoring and address human trafficking can
be based on programs that are based on partnership. Programs to Initiate

Studies suggest that Homeland Internal Security participates in not less than one hundred and twenty task forces in the whole world. This in line with different

local and state law enforcement, tribal, and federal. HSI should also work with other investigating authorities like labor officers, code inspectors, and investigators in
child welfare (Ortelli & Burlingame, 2018). These groups, when pursuing their obligations, can likely come along trafficking of humans. Of most important, vital
partners in the task force’s effort are organizations for victim services who provide social services and manage cases that can stabilize victims. HIS can decide to
participate in teams that coordinate federal anti-trafficking and the justice department FBI and labor departments (DHS, 2020). The participation is to ensure
prosecution and investigations for federal human trafficking plans are achieved. Community-based firms and victim service providers are an essential platform form
to stop human trafficking. Provider for victim services can offer appropriate and comprehensive services to victims. These might include food, shelter, medical, mental
health, and clothing (Ortelli & Burlingame, 2018). Besides, the unique depending needs of the victims can be provided. These include legal counsel, placement of
employment, and job training. Working closely with community-based firms, HIS can be informed of the indicators of trafficking; thus, gathering the tips for
investigations. The community-based firms can include groups for worker’s rights, refugee and migrant firms, and community-based firms. The United States
Department of Homeland Security has a unified voice from the blue campaign. The latter ensures that the United States combat the trafficking of humans. The
department of homeland security can use the blue campaign to create awareness to the public concerning human trafficking. Besides, a partnership can be leveraged
to educate the public to recognize acts of human trafficking and report cases of suspected instances. Through such campaigns, training can be offered to the
enforcement of law and investigation as well as to detect human trafficking. This way, the victims can be protected by suspected traffickers brought to justice. With a
commitment to the entire government approach, multiple federal agencies get involved in preventing human trafficking. However, they also should offer prosecution
and protection efforts. Homeland Security should work with United States prosecutors from the justice department closely (Lyneham & Voce, 2020). Also, the Attorney
and the Federal Bureau of Investigation investigators’ offices should, and the labor department should help enforce laws to combat the trafficking of humans.
Homeland Security Investigations’ success is dependent on partners of foreign law enforcement. The partnership helps in international operations for human
trafficking. Some investigations in trafficking should start in the United States and be linked to the networks and individuals in other countries, where victims were
recruited originally (Terziev et al., 2018). The Homeland Security Investigations bolster the relationships with training on human trafficking to foreign law enforcing
partners. The worldwide international academies for law enforcement serve a great deal in the partnership. Recommendation to Combat Human Trafficking

Recently, the United States Department of Homeland Security endorsed a long-standing nominated prosecutor of civil rights to combat and monitor trafficking as a
person. The individual, John Cotton, is motivated to push what is now known as “modern slavery” (World Economic Forum, 2018). The ambassador’s office comes with
a higher burden of annual report production by the prosecutor. However, the state provides a response to be assessed and a yearly document report concerning
trafficking. It is true that despite the pressure that is portrayed, most of the women, children, and men are trapped and require to be rescued. As a result, human
trafficking requires a big four aspects to be applied before the implementation of selected programs (Reid et al., 2017). First, the influence and credibility require to be
rebuilt. Reflecting on Homeland Security, the United States can be coinciding and eroding steadily with under occupation of several years in the ambassador’s post.
Failure of meaningful address for exploitation has presented an illusion of progress, and countries continue to lag.

1
6

The ambassador and his team require a proactive reassert that, with integrity, look into the assessment process. Of course, attention has to be created due to

the perception of the process being increasingly politicized. The report’s function as a diplomacy mechanism makes a sensible expectation that shows an alignment
between America’s attitude with another nation (World Economic Forum, 2018). However, the ranking for the US has to be delivered. The rank should be based on
facts and become instrumental in avoiding credibility loss. This way, the United States can influence change. Secondly, the focus should on all other types of
trafficking. Trafficking covers all types of exploitation; thus, making it an umbrella term. Due to various reasons, historical bases included, the anti-trafficking
movement’s focus has not been sexual exploitation. The United States, among other countries, has narrowed further in rhetorical and political space, making sex
trafficking of children dominantly emerges as a priority (Winterdyk, 2018). In the early years, the report’s occasional missteps remain to make a broad comprehension
of exploitation to indicate the meaning of trafficking. The ambassador’s office should firmly be against trafficking and avoid being obstructed by policies that support
local prostitution. The office should also show firm confrontation to various exploitation types, beginning with forced labor in the global trade. It is said that
international forced labor still faces the response and attention they deserve. Thirdly, corporate complicity should be affirmed through the responsibility of the
government. A frustrating pace of change has encouraged particulars associated with the campaign against humans’ exploitation, which broadens the individual’s
horizon. Transparency of the supply chain and corporate leadership are viewed as a magic bullet that deals with trafficking, especially in exploited forced labor.

For instance, California and the UK have legislated, and suggested firms of specific sizes draft a statement of compliance that details an effort to deal, and uncover
exploitations when conduction supply chains. Luckily, companies have decided to follow suit as the idea has caught on. Business groups in particular sectors

such as manufacturing and fisheries have developed codes and standards that guard against exploitation complicity. The ambassador’s office should also focus on
bringing in the private sector in the fight against exploitation, particularly based on human trafficking. Lastly, justice and prosecution for victims should be prioritized.
Justice for almost every country when prosecuting traffickers has become a shock. In 2017, over seven thousand convictions related to offenses of trafficking were
reported in the entire world. Not less than ninety percent of the cases related to the cases were associated with exploitation through sex trafficking. The rets
accounted for labor trafficking in the same period. Studies suggest that the number of victims rose to four million. The figures are astonishing. It would be accurate to
say that the offenders face virtual impunity if the scale can be compared to other forms of crime. Therefore, there is a lack of justice for those offended. Although not
everyone might be favoring prosecution, it is also true that a response to anti-trafficking can cause real harm. The latter can particularly affect the countries with a
system of justice that is poorly developed and dysfunctional. However, the ambassador should note that trafficking is among the serious crimes. Failure to punish and
prosecute makes a complicit harmful government. Conclusion

Generally, the trafficking of humans has raised the alarm in the world. The department of homeland security has been motivated to combat the act so all over

the world. However, the efforts done by homeland security might want to be boosted as studies suggest that the case victims in trafficking are still rising. Human
trafficking has impacted both the community and the families of individuals. Besides, national security has been threatened due to the act of trafficking. It would be
accurate to conclude that social and economic aspects are impacted through the trafficking of humans. As a result, the Homeland Security Investigations has a chance
to implement programs that can fight the act of trafficking. Partnership programs might be the most effective means to combat the act of human trafficking. It is not
sure that individuals can permanently eliminate human trafficking, but it is better if minimized. Either way, something must be done to control the trafficking of
humans before things become worse. Homeland Security must so far be congratulated for the great efforts made in combating human trafficking.

Barriers in the language or fearing the
traffickers and law enforcement officers
frequently keep the victims from

makes the trafficking of humans a crime
that is hidden in society. Notably, the
traffickers search for the individuals that
look susceptible for different reasons.
The latter involves instability in politics,
natural disasters, lack of safety net in the
society, economic hardship, emotional

Dangerous and destabilizing effects of
trafficking of humans range from direct
loss in the economy, readily recognized
violence, primary migration concerns,
and immediate loss in the economy
(Marburger & Pickover, 2020). All these
aspects go up to equally serious, less
easily quantified, but complex impacts of
harms and risks of social, health and

economies, and working intensely
against political interest’s reconciliation
