Baldwin & Ford Model
This week’s discussion focuses on the Baldwin and Ford Transfer of Training Model. The model suggests that training input factors, and training outcomes have both a direct and indirect effect on conditions of transfer in terms of six linkages. What is important with understanding this model, is the inter-relatedness of its linkages. With this statement as a back drop, please respond to the discussion question with a view toward the practical benefit to organizations today.
Question: “How can the Baldwin-Ford model be applied in the real world??? Provide support for your response. “

Grading Criteria
You are required to respond with depth, breadth and insight to the discussion question(s) as well as one of your class members. Your response to the discussion question(s) must be tied back to the chapter material and outside research is expected. When I ask you to support your answer, you are expected to combine opinion with, minimum 2, citations, insight from your experiences, observations of others experiences, analysis of the facts/information and a conclusion. PLEASE do not limit your citations to just the book! Find other supporting material outside of the class structure. You are also required to answer the question posed by the instructor and class members’. (Please note: The guidance outlined above will contribute to you “meeting the expectations” for the discussion. Additional participation will contribute to a grade that will “exceed the expectations” for the discussion
The combined original reply and two responses are worth up to 20 points per student. The criteria used to determine the point distribution will be:
Original Reply:
10 points
Initiated Peer Reply (2):
8 points
Uses of sources:
2 points
Cite examples, textbook material, or your own supporting material to back up your opinion.
Action: Read the below peer discussion board posts and provide your classmate with feedback on your opinion of their position. Do you agree and why? Do you disagree and why? Replies to your class members’ are intended to move the discussion forward. Telling them that they simply did a good job is not acceptable. Statements like “I feel”, “I believe” and/or “I think” are difficult to measure and, highly, subjective. Asking a question or two about the position they took will move the discussion forward. Replies are 150 word minimum

How can the Baldwin-Ford model be applied in the real world??? Provide support for your response.
The Baldwin and Ford Transfer of Training Model can be used successfully in many ways in today’s work environments. “Baldwin and Ford’s Transfer of Training Model (1988) is based on the idea that the transfer of learning depends on training inputs that include trainee characteristics, training design, and work environment. However, an important point in the model is that the outcome of training is impacted by trainee characteristics and work environment in a direct manner, whereas the impact of training design depends on the levels of training outputs such as learning and retention” (Dudovskiy, 2014, para.1).
Training inputs are essential for trainees to learn. When a trainee has the motivation and the ability to be trained, it makes it very easy for the trainer to teach the trainees effectively. With the correct training design, one that highlights objectives and has proper sequencing — allowing the trainee the opportunity to have a more positive training output. With the appropriate support form the training inputs, this gives the trainee the ability to learn what needs to be learned and retain the information. Then once these two steps are complete comes the ability to keep on training to remain knowledgeable and maintain skills and expertise to grow with the times.
The Baldwin and Ford Transfer of Training Model can be applied in the real world by this example. I’m going to use my position as an example an HR/Payroll Benefits Coordinator; When I am sourcing through applicants, I look for relevant experience or schooling to help find a candidate who is already knowledgeable of the current position. Next, once I find the candidate I bring them in for an interview to get to know them and this is where I can sense their personality and figure out if they will blend well with our team. Then once I hire the applicant, I put them through our general orientation and training where I provide company objectives, job description, key learning’s, and training content. After the training is completed I usually have a good idea of the trainee’s motivation, whether they want to work or have to work. Once I feel like we have a motivated candidate I put them on the floor with the support of our other managers to ensure they are comfortable. These are all examples of training inputs, so for training outputs, we identify the weaknesses of the trainee and develop new training and educations to help them be successful rather than quitting. Lastly, to maintain the applicant’s skills and learning, we provide monthly general teachings and different events to keep trainees motivated and educated.
The training I described isn’t always the case, so depending on the trainee, we can develop different paths for different levels of skill and experience. Some applicants need less training than others, and some applicants are already knowledgeable. Based on the trainee will depict the path of the six linkages.
