An information source acquisition strategy is, in laymen terms, the plan for research. It is important that the DBA candidate know their destination before planning the route. It prevents the researcher from falling into a rabbit hole. As many have discovered, there are multiple loads of data available and it can get overwhelming. Constructing meaning from all these valid resources (peer-reviewed, practitioner-based, scholarly) denotes a higher-level of literacy.

The DBA candidate will be locating, evaluating, synthesizing, skimming content, and comprehending all sorts of varying data to develop a conceptual framework that is not only meaningful but useful. A strategy will help the researcher stay focused and organized during this process. The strategy will help in retrieving more relevant data, so time is not wasted on studies that do not fit – it allows to concentrate on what best suits (Literature Review, 2020).

Trident has an excellent library that will allow searching for key terms, concepts, subjects, and publication dates (all good components of a good strategy). There is even a page listing individual databases, in which I was able to find a complete book on how to write literature reviews for doctoral students.

I believe this to be an appropriate source for accurate and verified sources. Therefore, part of my information source acquisition strategy is to use Trident’s database and become more familiar with the tools available in the library. Then I can search related studies using my criteria for methodology ideas, research designs, and opportunities for further research. Since the literature review sets the stage for the argument and defense, its important to have a strong and supportive research, which is more accurately found using an information source acquisition strategy.

Professor and Classmates,

A construct is an abstract idea or theme in a research study (Lavrakas, 2008). It should not be confused with theory as they do not share the same definition or meaning (Udo-Akang, 2012). From my understanding, constructs are elements that help create a theory. Constructs are a set of ideas or variables used within a theory to explore a particular phenomenon.

As I started selecting my topic, I wanted to research something that I was really interested in. Motivation is an essential element when developing a research question (Coakes & Ng, 2014). When a researcher is motivated to learn more about a particular phenomenon, it may ease the process of collecting data and analyzing it to produce results and conclusions.

For years since I started my career in Human Resources, I have been intrigued with the idea of telecommuting. As society evolves and new generations enter the workforce, telecommuting has become a trending workplace benefit, giving employees certain flexibilities. In conjunction, I am also interested in the behavioral impact telework has on individuals. I will research how telecommuting develops a sense of isolation and how that impacts job performance. I believe my constructs or variables are telecommuting, sense of belonging, engagement, and job performance.

The first relationship between a couple of these variables or constructs is job performance and engagement. An individual’s engagement towards their work will develop a certain level of performance. Typically, low engagement will lead to poor performance. The second relationship is telecommuting and feeling isolated. One of the negative effects that telecommuting has on employees is the feeling of being isolated. When you are working remotely, you are not in a physical location with other coworkers. When feeling alone or isolated, this may impact the level of engagement or effort towards their work. Although these variables or constructs are different, they can have commonalities towards telecommuting.
