 You have used three surveys during this course that deals with school culture, the purpose of education, and who owns what in education.  Using the results from these surveys, reflect on how you can ensure your students will see a positive culture in your classroom.  Think about how you would correct some of the areas that the surveys indicated were deficient.  Your response should be in APA format and should be at least 1000 words in length.

In my chart the areas of strength was in decision making, openness, and leadership when it deals with collaboration. More teachers agreed that teachers are given the time to discuss student achievement, but they are giving others advice. The lowest areas were organization, socialization, and student achievement. When it comes to school values instead of the teacher making up their own values the school usually have the values outlined for the teachers. Trust was a big issue that isn’t expected. Another high area they agreed on was they don’t mind the parents being involved when it comes to the students. I think they need improvement on being able to trust their colleagues and understanding the school improvement is a continuous issue. We as teachers have to continue to look for ways to improve the way the students learn and more ways to encourage learning.

Survey of the purpose of Education: Why Are We Here?

The areas of strengths are in the areas were to learn the value of cooperation over competition. We need to teach children competition is good and we lose some and we win some. But we regardless of us are all winners. The teachers also agreed on the importance of academics (reading, math, science, and history).

The weakest area was to force prudently, to become rich and independent, and to know how to use spare time. We have to understand that being rich is not important. Just being comfortable. Teaching students how to beat the system is not a good thing, because that will lead to trouble in the end.

The School Culture Survey 6.1

The areas of strength were in Category 1 where they agree mainly on the teachers obtaining information from other resources. They agreed upon that teachers do spend a majority of the time planning together. Where I work the teachers do come together to agree upon the lessons and assignments for the students within the grade they are teaching. They have grade level meetings to make sure the students are staying on task. The survey also seeks that they do seek different ideas from their colleagues, seminars, and conferences. Teachers are willing to help out when a problem does arise and leaders do take the time out to praise teachers who perform well. For example, since we are in the building and the students are virtual the superintendent observed some classes and she praised the teachers on how they did such a good job.

The weakest areas were in Category 4 and Category 3 in these areas they need areas, whereas the leaders don’t influence teachers working together. They have been on the idea of staying apart. When it comes to the mission of the school the teachers don’t feel the mission don’t represent anything, a lot of them feel like the mission should be changed to something more encouraging. When it comes to the teaching performance reflecting the mission it does, because most of the time we are on time, being respectful and responsible.
