Leadership Style Self Assesment
From the online assessment I carried out, I realized that I have excellent communication skills. It is a must for any leader to have acute communication skills, since leaders are required to appropriately voice expectations, manage employees and inspire people by sharing their thoughts through proper communication. I am also an active listener, and this helps me relate well with other people. Being an active listener is a remarkable trait in leaders, since leaders ought to listen to lead effectively (Brent, 2019). My other strength is goal setting. I acknowledge that setting goals equates to personal success, hence the reason why I have perfected the practice goal setting. According to Janine (2019), a leader is required to change the invisible into the visible and to effectively lead teams, goal setting should be a regular practice for leaders. I have outstanding conflict resolution skills, owing to my ability to solve disagreements rationally. Leaders must be able to resolve chaos amongst their followers in a peaceful way.
One of my weaknesses is that I find it a bit hard to confidently face difficult situations, and making courageous decisions during such situations is always a struggle. I also have a weakness of micromanaging people, particularly when I am put in charge of a group project. I am also a perfectionist, and more often than not, I expect others around me to be the same. To expand my leadership skills, I will consider seeking mentorship from someone with more leadership experience. I will also take an online leadership course to learn more about people management skills. I also plan on reading more leadership management books which enable one to gain further insight into effective leadership practices (Robbins & Judge, 2019).
