  • Nursing Autobiography: A brief (1 page) discussion of your background in nursing. This does not include future goals.
  • The Four Metaparadigms:Describe what the literature says about the basic four metaparadigms/concepts of patient, nurse, health, and environment. Do not relate the metaparadigms to the theory you have chosen.
  • Briefly describe the theory you have chosen.
  • Two Practice-Specific Concepts:in separate subsections discuss each of your two concepts:What is the definition of the concept (outside of the theory)? How does your theorist define your concept? How does this concept apply to your clinical setting? Give an example of how nurses in your area provide care that correlates with the theorist’s definition of the concept.

You MUST use the attached template

here

to complete your paper. The paper is to be thoroughly researched and well documented, with relevant material from the nursing theorists presented incorporated into the paper. Use the current edition of the APA Manual throughout the paper. Sources should focus on references from nursing theory but may also include conceptual and theoretical material from other professional domains. The paper, excluding references or appendices, is to be limited to 3-5 pages. Writing should be succinct and well organized, as it is impossible for the facilitator to evaluate form and content separately.

I have attached the template to this document. I have 6 Years of experience in maternity ( labor and delivery/postpartu/NICU. and I want to be a family nurse practitioner in south Florida I want to help mainly children and women. please use the same temple as the first submission. and no references on Watsons theories.

This is what my teacher wrote in regards of the first submission (which I have attached below):

Remember to change your theorist – you cannot have the same theorist as your group project

Remember the first and second page titles have to match exactly

You have to cite your theory every time you mention it, and use the theorist preferably in the citation

Review the use of et al – you are not using it correctly much of the time

Remember you need a page number in a citation too for a direct word for word quote

Read the paper carefully – I see a lot of typos and sentences that do not make sense

Add more citations to your definitions of metaparadigms

You cannot use the same concepts as the metaparadigms since you have already defined them previously in the paper.

Review correct style for references in APA format – you are not always following it.

Personal Philosophy and Theoretical Concepts

Many nursing theorists have done an excellent job in designing theories that have been helpful in the clinical setting as well as in research. In this paper, I will focus on one of the greatest theories in nursing; the human care theory which was formulated by Jane Watson.

Autobiography

I am an experienced nurse mostly in maternity. I started nursing as a general nursing after my bachelor’s degree. After some time, I continued my studies specializing in maternity, which is my current specialization. I have vast experience working as a maternity RN and providing optimum care to all my patients with a kind heart. This entails taking care of women in labor and neonates as well. I have worked in this section for six years. In my practice, it has been a priority for me to take the patients’ needs before mine. I have realized that these patients need more care than just administering drugs. From my knowledge and skills, it has been helpful in determining the needs of the patients and attending to them in the most effective and scientific proven methods. every time I receive a patient, the only thing that comes to my mind is holistic care, promoting health and healing in that patient. while I uphold my professional standards, it has been great serving patients and I must say that serving with a good heart and getting to satisfy patients’ needs is a different kind of satisfaction I get.

The Four Metaparadigms

“A metaparadigm is the most general statement of discipline and functions as a framework in which the more restricted structures of conceptual models develop. Much of the theoretical work in nursing focused on articulating relationships among four major concepts: person, environment, health, and nursing,” (Butts, et.al. 2017). The interaction of these concepts defines the special discipline of nursing and health.

Patient.

The patient is the client who receives nursing care. This patient may be physically fit or not but according to the nurse’s role of providing holistic care, a patient is a person who is ill, either physically, emotionally, spiritually of mentally ill. all the factors should be considered when defining a patient.

Environment.

The environment involves both internal and external conditions that interact directly or indirectly with the client. In many cases, these interactions cause the wellness changes seen in patients. they may include the social environment like family and friends or the physical environment like land and water (Bredo, et.al. 2017)

Nursing.

Nursing is the professional application of skills, knowledge and understanding concerning patients in their management. it also entails appreciating the ol.eof a nurse and effectively parting to provide quality services and care.

Health.

Health is the degree of wellness experienced by a client. it entails the wellness of all the aspects that define a human being including physical, emotional, psychological as well as spiritually. deficit in any of those aspects, is considered ill health.

Practice-Specific Concepts

One of the major nursing theories is human caring by Jane Watson. It expresses concerns on how nurses employ their skills in the care of the patient. In the theory, she emphasizes on the integration of scientific research to patient care. in its statement; “nursing is concerned with promoting health, preventing illness, caring for the sick, and restoring health”, (Jean Watson, Theory of human caring, 2019) health promotion is a very key component of care. The theory explains its key concepts including nursing and health.

Name of First Concept: Nursing.

The concept of nursing is explained as the skillful application of knowledge and understanding in the clinical area for the care of the patient. This knowledge is integrated with scientific research in provision of evidence-based practice. jane defines nursing as “human science of persons and human health-illness experiences that are mediated by professional, personal, scientific, esthetic, and ethical human care transactions”(Jean Watson, Theory of human caring, 2019). In my clinical area, this concept is applied in the provision of evidence-based nursing services with maximum skills employed for a greater outcome.

Name of Second Concept: health

Health is another concept discussed in Human Caring by wJane Watson. health can be defined as the complete wellness of an individual. The health of an individual considers all the aspects that make up a person but not necessarily the presence of a disease. jane defines health as “Health is the unity and harmony within the mind, body, and soul; health is associated with the degree of congruence between the self as perceived and the self as experienced” (Jean Watson, Theory of human caring, 2019). in my health care setting, this concept is applied in the provision of scientifically based holistic care to all patients

Conclusion

In conclusion, the theory of human caring is a theory that emphasizes on the holistic care of patients irrespective of their differences. it eloys major concepts that are also present in the nursing metaparadigms which are: health, patient, environment and nursing. I feel that we as nurses should always remember this in our practice, regardless of the specialization.
