Minimum wage has become a significant issue of debate in society because it has a great influence on the way of life for many. Some individuals would prefer for it to be raised and some people want it to remain the same. I look at it in the sense that, since it will bring a lot of advantages to individuals minimum wage should be raised. According to policylink.org “Raising the minimum wage would also help close the racial wealth gap, which is at historic levels,” this quote indicates that many minorities would be on course for greater financial security that was not granted through their historic background, this can also result into less poverty in the country. As stated on Minimum wage.procon.org “the current minimum wage is not high enough to allow people to afford housing,” this quote suggests that many people have to work double just to get by to afford housing. In conclusion, increasing the minimum wage would benefit the less fortunate and overall create a better life for many.

Example

The federal minimum wage is currently $7.25 an hour in the United States. In my opinion, the minimum wage should be raised to decrease poverty. With such a low amount of pay, families struggle to pay bills, groceries, and other necessities.  By raising the minimum wage to an acceptable price, families wouldn’t rely on government programs and become more self-sufficient. In addition, government spending would be reduced. In conclusion, raising the minimum wage benefits the economy as well as citizens.
