Power can be defined as the potential or the ability to influence individuals in relation to their attitudes, beliefs or activities. In leadership context, power is viewed usually as phenomenon in the organization’s control systems and hierarchical structures (Bratton, 2020). Leaders have a significant role to play due to the changing ways in which they influence the actual workplace bullying. As a perpetrator, the leader’s hierarchical supremacy provides a source of power distance over a potential target. Leaders who bully may also have a strong influence in molding the organization’s culture. In cases of abusive management, the target may feel vulnerable and helpless due to the power distance between the target and the perpetrator. Bullying heavily affects the physical, emotional, and mental state of the victim and could not focus on his or her work. Thus, bullying may have diverse repercussions on the diverse aspects of a victim’s life that are directly associated with productivity (Samnani, 2019).

 

           The pervasive beliefs, attitudes and values that distinguish an organization and guide its practices are company culture. Company culture has an intense impact on productivity. An organization with a positive culture means more engaged, happier, more loyal workforce and are compelled to work harder. Putting these all together may lead to increased productivity (Lopez, 2017). An organizational culture is one of the most significant factors affecting both innovation and creativity in firms. Positive work atmosphere with psychological security, better interpersonal associations and open team interaction are significant to strengthen the employees’ creative performances. Thus, a healthy organizational culture should be created with better mutual relationships among employees and their seniors to promote innovation and creativity in organization (Ali Taha et al., 2016).

            Culture affects all the leadership facets. The norms and values rooted in a culture influence the leadership behavior, objectives and strategies of companies. Culture is one of the numerous external variations where leaders have to be engaged passionately. Culture cannot be viewed as a restriction on leadership because few organizations create a culture with an emphasis on significance of learning and such a culture supports leaders as they develop their leadership competencies (Gartenstein, 2019).

1.         Discuss what power in the context of leadership is and how it relates to bullying within organizations.  Also note how this impacts productivity.

The term leader is referred to the individual part of the same team trying to influence people to run towards the goal (Rong, Yang, & Ma, 2017). Leader has the authority over the group to make and implement decisions. Leaders with high power could lead the team towards the goal better and as well as create a black hole of negative vibrations. Leaders with the high sense of power will be highly motivated towards the target and hence they will positively select the right resource at the right time to accomplish the given task (Rong, Yang, & Ma, 2017). Also, leaders who use power in the right way will be more observant towards the social interactions, and interpersonal skills to always learn and improve the relations between their team members. The right relations between team members and the leader will help in moving towards the goal better and faster (Rong, Yang, & Ma, 2017). Same in the negative way, instead of using the power for positive motivation, if the power of leaders are used to try to motivate in the negative way, then it leads to dissatisfaction and disagreements among the team members. From the above reasons, we can say power in the hands of leaders have direct impacts on the productivity of team members (Rong, Yang, & Ma, 2017). 

2.         Discuss what organizational culture is and how it impacts work productivity.  Also, note how organizational culture impacts the success of innovation implementation

 Organizational culture is characterized into involvement in work, compatibility, adaptability and mission (Mohammadi, 2020).

Involvement in work: Effective organizations make people at all levels as part of decision process and make them chip in ideas and thoughts about the work. As decision process plays crucial role in the success, it links directly to the goals of the organization (Mohammadi, 2020).

Compatibility: In this section, agreement to the organization needs and goals and coordination among different groups will impact the productivity of the work group (Mohammadi, 2020).

Adaptability: As a part of organization, work groups has to put up with the changes and embrace them. Adapting to the changing situations will always create impacts towards productivity and innovations (Mohammadi, 2020).

Mission: everything depends on the organization’s goal and mission. Every effort taken in the organization has to be towards the mission statement of the organization. Perspective of the leadership towards mission will affect the work group’s innovations in different areas (Mohammadi, 2020).

 3.         How does culture impact leadership? Can culture be seen as a constraint on leadership?

 The critical point in the organizational culture keeping leadership in perspective would be the mission and goal of the organization. Leadership has to work towards achieving the goals set by the mission statement of the organization (Rong, Yang, & Ma, 2017). Goals are linked the strategy of the organization and it within pulls leadership towards the strategy. So, culture of the organization will constantly remind leadership about their stands and checks up on them on the ongoing progress (Mohammadi, 2020).
