Module 1 – Case
GLOBAL HEALTH AT A GLANCE
Assignment Overview
Global Health Priorities
The development of a society, rich or poor, can be judged by the quality of its population’s health, how fairly health is distributed across the social spectrum, and the degree of protection provided from disadvantage as a result of ill health. Furthermore, the perception of health varies from population to population, and this has implications for health behavior and ultimately health status.
Case Assignment
- Choose an infectious disease from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s “watch list” at https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5661857/. You will refer to this chosen infectious disease in future assignments for this course.
- Do your own research to find out which populations of the world are most affected by this health issue and what is being done to solve the problem. Write a 2- to 3-page review of your findings.
- Think about how this global health issue is being handled in the population to which you belong (e.g., your racial/ethnic group, city/state/country you live in, a city/state/country you have ties with or would like to visit, etc.) and write another page about that.
Be sure to use credible, professional, and scholarly sources such as peer-reviewed journal articles from the Trident Online Library, and government, university, or nonprofit organizations’ websites.
Length: 3–4 pages (excluding the cover page and reference list), double-spaced.
