Annotated Bibliography

Annotated Bibliography on an anthropologist. 

For this assignment, you are to research a specific anthropologist and produce an annotated bibliography. An annotated bibliography is simply a listing of properly formatted sources (we will use MLA 8th ed. for this assignment) that you found on a given topic with a brief annotation—or an evaluative summary—supplied for each source you list. This annotated bibliography will provide you the opportunity to take a closer look at an anthropologist’s work and their role in the discipline.

The goals of this assignment will be:

1.) to contrast the quality and type of sources you find on the open internet with the types of resources found in an academic library

2.) to familiarize yourself with scholarly resources found only in an academic library (you’ll thank me for this when you are in your upper division coursework, regardless of your discipline/major!)

3.) to introduce / reinforce the skills necessary for citing your sources for academic research

4.) to refine your information literacy skills by making clear and concise evaluative remarks (i.e., annotations) about the sources you found.

To earn the maximum 25 points for this part of the assignment, you must:

Include four (4) references (5 points each; 20 points max for all 4 sources)

· The four (4) sources must be from the following information formats/locations:

· a Wikipedia entry (or from another open website source)

· a Book (or an article from reference book)

· a non-peer-reviewed Article (i.e., a magazine or newspaper article)

· a peer-reviewed Scholarly Journal Article from an Anthropology publication such as American Anthropologist, Current Anthropology

· Compile all of your sources onto one document, arranging the entries alphabetically by the author’s last name with the annotation for each source supplied immediately below the source citation.

· In addition to an annotation for each source that you found, you
must
also include a summary of no more than two paragraphs at the end of your bibliography where you explain in narrative form:

· how you found your sources

· which sources you found to be the most valuable and which you found the least valuable and
WHY

· which sources seem the most trustworthy and which seem less trustworthy and
WHY

Remember, the most important part of this summary is explaining the
WHY
. This summary paragraph is worth 5 points.
