DHS and Technology Initiatives
One of the strengths of America is our use of science and technology to solve issues facing us. During the 1960s, President Kennedy focused America on the “Space Race,” and after 9/11, President Bush focused us on the War on Terrorism. One of the largest line items in the DHS budget is research and development. These efforts have an impact on the future of ability of the Department of Homeland Security meet the challenges facing us in the future.Initial PostAs you review all the programs in the DHS research and development budget in Chapter 12 of your primary text, where are our limited funds most effectively spent? Should we focus on off-the-shelf technology? Should our focus be on detection of hazards, disrupting terrorism, or first responder preparedness and response?
