This activity will provide you with an opportunity to engage in a discussion with this class on a project topic that you have selected to implement as the term project. The class interaction will foster a learning environment in which you will learn from each other’s experiences and opinions.
In addition, you will practice using project management jargon and expressing your opinions in a professional manner. The options available in this discussion have ethical considerations that are important to consider as a project manager.
Specifically, for this M1D1 discussion, you are required to:
- Critically evaluate and recommend a term project for implementation. Place yourself in an organizational context. Understand the environment in which this organization functions.
Describe the real or fictitious strategic context for your project topic. You may:
Explain about the industry, the organization and other environmental factors. For example, IBM is a corporation that develops hardware, software and provider information technology services.
Write about its history, the way the company has changed, the evolution of the industry, current industry trends, etc.Present a SWOT analysis on the selected industry/organization.
Choose a business area for your project topic. Focus on, and explain a specific area within the organization such as marketing, information technology, finance, etc.
Analyze your options and recommend your project topic. This will be a project in the chosen business area.

Finally, in a reflection of at least 30 words, describe the most interesting and challenging parts of preparing the project proposal, as well as any recommendations to your classmates for preparing the proposal.
About Term Project
This course offers a virtual project management experience. The purpose of this activity is to enable you to practice what you learn during this course. This exercise commences from Module 1 in which you are required to select the term project topic. Your term project will continue through all eight modules of this course. It will end in Module 8 with a video presentation of your term project as well as the submission of an organized portfolio of project management related reports.
In all the modules of this course, the discussions and assignments are designed to facilitate the simulation of various tasks involving project managers. These activities have detailed instructions to progressively guide your term project to its finish.
In each module, a large component of the discussion requirements is oriented towards the tasks required of the term project. Through the discussion responses your cohort of students is expected to support the improvement of the information presented regarding your term project tasks. By adopting this approach, the discussion activities in this course offer the experience of working in teams.
The discussion in each module is directly connected to the assignment of the following module. The discussion posts and the feedback related to your term project will help you complete a significant portion of the work required in the assignments of the subsequent modules.
It is essential to select a term project topic that has the capacity to provide you the breadth and depth of project management experience. The following guidelines may help you select such a project:
