Week 10: Research and Evidence-Based Treatment

Imagine making complex decisions about treating a variety of addiction issues, such as food addiction, sex addiction, and cocaine addiction. Add to that the problems that often lead to addiction, such as depression, childhood abuse, and mental illness, and you can understand why treatment decisions can be challenging. How do you know what treatment program to use with a client? How can you know whether a treatment will be effective? What do other helping professionals say about treatment options?

Helping professionals make treatment decisions every day. Those decisions are sometimes based on experience and anecdotal evidence, but often they are based on scientific evidence gathered from observation and research.
