Thinking Rhetorically & Rhetorical Situations
The topic that is focused on for chapters one and two is to be able to think rhetorically and to understand rhetorical situations. Throughout this chapter it explains how the two most potent tools that we have is our language and violence. It will show you how words can have a huge impact whether it’s good or bad. An example of this can be a referenced-on page five as well as six 6. Always remember that language is your best approach to keep violence away in any situation. This chapter also teaches you that when you choose to use your words you can make a difference in others life’s. Such as persuasion, when you know how to persuade others it can lead to you making a difference in others lives. An example of this is being able to help others out when knowing how to use persuasion. Referencing back to page 6 it shows us that a group of students were able to help and persuade an administration to pay temporary workers more, through campaigns, newsletters, speeches and sit-ins. It then goes into teaching us how to think rhetorically, and why it’s important. By obtaining this skill it will allow you to pay attention to what others say and really understand their views before making your own say in a conversation even if you don’t agree with what the other person is saying. When writing an essay, the textbook reminds us that its also beneficial to use intuition and imagination. It will allow for the writer to form a more creative and interesting essay for the reader and to also be able to expand more on their topic. Prior to writing your essay its always important to plan ahead of time to figure out what your topic is going to be. Not only that but who’s your audience going to be, how does your topic affect the tone, what does your audience know about your topic among many other affects you need to take into consideration. In conclusion chapters one and two teach you the importance of rhetorical thinking and how to expand on your topic when writing an essay.
